"In 2017, my family embarked on a cross-country adventure to Rockville, Maryland, traveling in our trusty Toyota Sienna, 'Pearl' from Old Temecula, California. Along the way, we discovered various painted rocks, including a YouTube symbol nestled in a tree in Simi Valley, California, and others at Trinity Lake, Mt. Shasta/Oregon, as well as at various rest stops in Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee, and the last one in D.C.! These chance discoveries sparked a sense of wonder and joy in our family. Little did we know, this journey would become the catalyst for something much deeper. However, life had other plans. In the midst of our rock-finding adventure, I experienced a devastating lossโthe tragic passing of my mother, Tina McCreery (Kurzendoefer), a US Army Veteran, in a single-car accident. Her love for art, including our cherished paint and sip nights, has become a lasting memory, and Iโve found comfort in continuing her legacy through rock painting. As I navigated the grieving process, my husband, Gary B, created the Rockville Rocks Facebook page in 2018. It brought me solace to paint landscape rocks, both as a tribute to my mother and as a means of healing and finding peace. The painted rocks we discovered leading up to her funeral and beyond became poignant reminders of the kindness and compassion that surround us, often overlooked by others. In March 2018, we launched the Rockville Rocks Facebook page, joining the first FB Kindness Rocks Project workshop program. Today, we have a vibrant community connected through the world wide web, dedicated to specifically painting rocks to promote peace, kindness, and connection. Our mission is simple: to spread peace and joy, one piece of rock art at a time. Since 2019, we've shared over 2,500 painted Legacy Rocks, each symbolizing hope, inspiration, and the resilient human spirit. As we continue on this journey, we invite you to join us in spreading peace, joy, and kindness through the art of rock painting, one rock at a time."
